Dig|Safely. New York keeps records of all location requests (Stake-outs) made for the past 4 years. At present, searches are allowed back to the year A Search Request is required if you are looking for any stake-out more than 10 business days old, starting from the day the request was made.
If you are not the Person, Company, or Organization that called in the original stake-out, a Search Request is required regardless of how old the ticket is.
Please note for legal purposes, Dig|Safely. New York cannot consider the result of a search (or lack of result) as authoritative unless you have provided an exact ticket number. Dig|Safely. New York must always treat any other type of search result (or lack of result) as being speculative. We can never state "this stake-out request was for this excavation." All we can say is "the following criteria produced the following candidates." Likewise, we can never state "this excavation did not have a stake-out request." All we can say is given search criteria was inadequate for finding any viable candidates.
If you are not a Member Utility (or a representative of a Member Utility) there is a $25.00 charge for each search, payable by CHECK ONLY to Dig Safely New York.

Additionally, Dig|Safely. New York keeps Voice Recordings of all stake-out request calls for several years. Dig|Safely. New York can, for a $75 fee, provide a copy of the conversation to a 1st or 2nd party of the stake-out request.
If you are looking for a ticket that YOU called in less than 10 business days ago, please call 800-962-7962 and request an “excavator copy” from the operator. You will need to provide your Dig|Safely. New York issued Company ID or phone number, the exact ticket number, and a place to send the ticket.
