Updating an Existing Service Area Map (Polygon)

NEED UPDATED LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS

Enter Username and Password, select Administration on the tool bar

Select Registration and then select the Add New button

When the window appears, select Based on Existing

Scroll down and click the Save button, it will give a new Registration ID

Select this Registration ID then select View Map

The service area will pull up the map of New York State. You should have the ability to edit or modify or create your Service Area map. Follow instructions below to create your service area map. Be sure to send an email to database@digsafelynewyork.com after you have completed your map.

Locating an Area on the Map

To zoom into a specific area on the map, select the Binocular tool on the top tool bar

Type in the County, Place, and street information

Click the Search button

Click the Add to map button and then the Close button

The Road will be highlighted in a pink color, this is to help locate the road but it will not save the area, you will need to create and save the area by using the directions below.

Select the Mapping Tool

The Draw Lines tool is used to map along roads

Left click once the Draw lines tool located on the bottom tool bar

Go to the map and left click once at your starting point

Pull the mouse towards your ending point, left clicking once each time the road bends

At your ending point double click (left) you will see yellow circles around your area

Then Left click the insert and merge tool located on bottom tool bar

The Polygon Tool is used to outline an area

Left click once on the polygon tool located on the bottom tool bar

Go to the map and left click once at your starting point

Pull the mouse to the next point

Left click once each time that you come to a turn or bend

At your ending point double click (left) you will see yellow circles around your area

Then Left click the insert and merge tool located on bottom tool bar

The Draw Points Tool is used for intersections only

This tool will place a 400' radius around the intersection

Left click once on the Draw point’s tool located on the bottom tool bar

Go to the map and left click once at the intersection

You will see a circle with yellow circles around the intersection area

Then Left click the insert and merge tool located on the bottom tool bar

Remove Areas on Your Map using the Polygon and Cut and Remove tool

If you made a mistake or need to remove areas from your Service area map

Use the Polygon tool from the bottom tool bar

Follow the instructions for the polygon tool and grid around the area you would like removed

After you have surrounded the area and doubled clicked and see the small yellow circles

Left click on the Cut and Remove tool

This tool will remove the unwanted area

Once You Have Finished Creating the Map

Click Save button, located in upper right corner of map

Click Close map button

Click the Complete button

You will then get a pop up box confirming the number of changes made

A box will come up asking if you are sure you want to save

Click Yes

To Activate the Map

Once you have finished creating the map, you will need to request the release of your map into production by emailing member support, database@digsafelynewyork.com

Your selections will remain in pending mode until we have received your request for release of your map.

Once member support has reviewed and activated the map, member support will send a follow up email.

It is important that you once again review your map and verify that the changes have been activated after receiving the email.
